It is with deep sadness that the family of Richard D. Sugden announces his passing on December 26th, 2017, at his home on Cedar Street, Miramichi-East, NB. Rick was 78 years old.
Rick was born in Calgary, AB, the son of the late Kathleen (Cropper) Sugden/Barnes and the late George Arthur Sugden. Rick gave 32 years of service in the RCAF as an Electronics Air-Frame Technician, as well several years working in the private aerospace industry. In retirement, he was also Canadian Air Force Cadet Leader of Miramichi Squadron 315 until he turned 65.
Rick sang in Church choirs for over 43 years, including St. Michael's Basilica Choir and St. Andrew's RC Choir. He also performed in many plays put on by the Miramichi Choral Society. He was also a member of "Miramichi Sings" under the direction of Margaret Craig.
Rick was very active in the Knights of Columbus 1219 Council having served as Grand Knight for two years, as well as the Fourth Degree Bishop Hill Assembly, and most recently was serving as District Deputy in the Miramichi District. Rick was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, Miramichi-East, NB.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years---Norma A. (Campbell) Sugden of Miramichi; two brothers Ted (Marilyn) Sugden of Nepean, ON, and Roy Barnes (Susan) of Ottawa, ON; his sister Louann (Brian) MacEachern of Camrose, AB; and his Aunt Sheila (Ken) Stoddart of Taber, AB, as well as several nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Lorne Sugden, and his former wife, Mitzi (Creamer) Sugden. Rick had a special place in his heart for Rev. Charles Udeh, SMMM, Parish Priest of St. Andrew's RC Parish in Miramichi-Loggieville, NB.
His body will be resting at Maher's Funeral Home, 35 University Avenue, Miramichi-East, NB; phone number (506) 773-4321. Visitation at Maher's will be held on Friday, December 29th from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Leon W. Creamer on Saturday, December 30th, 2017, at 11 am from St. Andrew's RC Parish Church, Miramichi-Loggieville, NB. As expressions of sympathy, Mass offerings or donations to either the Miramichi SPCA or St. Andrew's RC Parish Building Fund would be appreciated.
